Following on from the overseas working party earlier this year we have been exploring the possibility of setting up this database in conjunction with MMA Healthserve. The discussions are now complete and we are ready to proceed!
The idea is to compile a database of people who are available and willing to go overseas for a short period of time (1 Week to 6 Months). The availability of this database will then be advertised to overseas mission agencies. It is hoped that these agencies will wish to utilise this information to temporarily replace workers who are on maternity leave or sabbaticals. There may also be opportunities where an allied health professional is not needed for a long term role but would be useful to provide education and advice to current workers on the field. One example of a recent situation is that a mission agency contacted CTN regarding a pastor they worked with in Africa who had had a stroke that had left him with mild speech and physical difficulties. There were not sufficient healthcare resources available to provide this gentleman with appropriate rehabilitation but his impairments were affecting his ministry. They were wondering if anyone would be available to make a short term visit to the country to advice the family and mission workers on how to best assist him.
To be able to register for this database you must be a qualified allied health professional and able to sign the HealthServe basis of faith that is detailed on the form. Registration on this database would not guarantee a placement with an overseas mission agency. It does mean that, should CTN or MMA Healthserve be approached by any agency looking for allied health professionals to fulfil specific, short-term needs, we can pass your details on to that agency. Any subsequent agreements are between you and that third part, and would not involve CTN or MMA HealthServe.
An database application form is now available from the CTN office. Request a copy via the contact form here.
